Excellent service - very competitive prices

We’ve rented a 6 berth camper with them for 3 weeks. It’s a smaller company and their campers might not be brand new. However they are well maintained and spotless clean. The customer service in both Christchurch and Auckland was extremely helpful and accommodating which is very important as the transfers can be very stressful. Highly recommended.

Excellent!

We had a Sprinter 2+1 BB for four weeks in August / September 2019. We were picked up at the Hotel, arriving at site we got a warm welcome an a very intensive briefing to the Camper by Colin. PH offered is to leave our luggage at their premises. The Sprinter was around 12 months old and in excellent condition. A very nice car to drive with a rather unusual layout for NZ Campervans, however we loved lying in bed in the morning, opening the sliding door and watching the sunrise. When we faced a problem with the water heater not working, this was solved with a single phonecall within a minute (we were too stupid to find a button which needs to get activated). Surprise when we returned the Van: Pacific Horizon does not charge you Road Use Charge, one of those hidden costs others do not include in their rental fees. After return of the Van, whih was super easy and relaxed, Maryann (the Owner) drove us to the Airport. In the past years I rented eight Campervans in New Zealand with six different companies and Pacific Horizon were – by far – the best! Not cheap, but well worth the money. 5/5 well deserved!

Everything was great.

People are very professional and very welcoming. Van by itself was very nice looking and was working very well. No trouble at all. Everything needed was inside and we were happy to called it home for our trip. We miss this life now 🙂 I kindly recommend this company

Recommended based on our experience

We hired a 2berth ST Camper from wendekreissen and would do so again. Pick up from the airport was relatively speedy. I had asked last minute if we could collect early and, although there was some delay due to 2 tyres needing changing (and I prefer that delay to 2 old tyres) we were away 2 hours earlier than hoped. The office staff are really welcoming. There is tea coffee and bus hits on hand during your wait. The book shelf and ‘left over food’ shelf are thoughtful additions. The van was well equipped. The bedding towels and tea towels all new and clean, the kitchenette surprisingly well stocked. The van layout was good for 2 people with the sofas making a very comfortable large double bed. The overall size was perfect for NZ roads and manoeuvrable. My only comment would be the engine is a bit under powered for the vehicle weight so lots of low gear work needed in hills. Despite that it was quite economical on fuel over long distances. I’d definitely recommend wendekreissen.

Great trip with Wendekreisen!

3 week trip in June-July with Koru2 Walkthrough … Van was just right for two adults with everything we needed – well appointed, super clean & easy to drive (very good fuel efficiency). We did a mix of free-camping/DOC and paid-sites but the van is genuinely self-contained. From booking, to collection (Christchurch), to return (Auckland) the Wendekreisen team provided great service – friendly & efficient, so no stress.

Qutations for renting

I contacted by email and phone for questions and quotation, the service was second to none, unfortunately they were unable to supply 3 vehicles of our choice for the dates we wanted, next time we need campervans, we will certainly try them first

Nick, Julie, and kids (the family behind PiwiWiwi) epitomize Kiwi hospitality. Whether you’re looking to rent a campervan, purchase a van, or build out / modify a van, we highly endorse PiwiWiwi. They are straight-forward, honest, helpful, and kind. We were first introduced (virtually) as we started our search for a rental campervan in May 2019. Ultimately we went with a campervan purchase for our 4 month road trip of NZ. Nick found us the van based on our requirements, coordinated the sale, stored the van until we arrived, kitted out the van with goodies, and the kids even named the van for us. We finally got to meet the PiwiWiwi family in real life in January 2020 when we started our travels. Obviously 2020 is turning out to be no ordinary year. Fast forward to September 2020 and, besides the lockdown period, we’re still going strong in our van and couldn’t be happier. Great experience!

Booked a Budget 4-berth camper van for 15 days. Travelled 4,000km around the South Island. Didn’t have any problems with the van, and stayed mainly at cheap DoC camp grounds. Definitely would do it again!

Great service from Wendekreisen

I had a fantastic experience with Wendekreisen. We hired one of their vans for 10 days and the 2 berth LDV vehicle was really good. It was well serviced, clean and great to drive. The service from the booking to collection to return was amazing. We got clean (possibly new) bed linen, pillows and duvet. The kitchen utensils were well stocked and good quality. The return process was simple with no-hassle. All this for a very competitive price as well.

They do pickup and drop off to the airport as well. Overall, it was an amazing hire. Loved the experience. This is how a no-stress holiday should be. Thank you Wendekreisen. ?

First time campervan users

Campervan was well equipped for our needs. Vehicle super easy to drive and maneuver through smaller towns and narrow roads with enough power to maintain speed limits preventing holding up traffic. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Booking and collection process easy with shuttle from airport included. Solar panel provided hot showers and power without the need for a powered camp ground site so we could make use of the more remote designated freedom camping sites. An exceptional holiday in a vehicle that exceeded our expectations.

NZ South Island -

Had a good look at all the South Island campervan options before selecting Wendekreisen for our 11 days of travel. Easy to use website; lots of information about each of its campervan types; ability to get a quote and book online; rapid personal response to queries; airport pick up and drop off, plus price were the major reasons. Brilliant, friendly Christchurch office and NZ reservations staff.
Our late model manual gearbox Koru Star 2 Walkthrough campervan (better than having to get out in the rain to walk around to the side door for rear entry) came complete with two gas bottles, fresh bedding (sheet, duvet, pillows), towels and tea towels, cooking pots and pans, kettle, cutlery, plates, bowls, glasses, toaster, small fridge and freezer, shower and toilet, TV (reception only in Lyttleton and Christchurch for us), internal heating, insect guards on rear sliding windows and roof vent, and a roof solar panel to help recharge batteries.

Once detailed familiarisation was completed, we stocked up at the local Countdown (camper height no problem for car park barrier) then headed across the sunny plains to rainy Arthurs Pass, Greymouth and Punakaiki Rocks – plenty of engine power for the hills and very easy to drive with good sized mirrors. Large cab windows great for the scenery.
Dropping the table top and rearranging two seat back cushions made a very comfortable double bed; leaving the roof vent open on a rainy night can make the floor wet – learned quickly to close the vent before driving. Our camper didn’t have a microwave (little space for that) but we got by with the dual gas burners plus local meals.
Found Google searches best for locating waste transfer stations and potable water supplies. It pays to read fully the supplied folder with notes as soon as possible – heaps of useful information there, including that our camper needed external power connection to use the 3 pin sockets in the rear.

Do aim to visit Aoraki-Mount Cook – have a look at the Ed Hillary display in the Hermitage but then look outside for the signs to The Old Mountaineers’ – a cafe with great food and filled with walls of stories, photos and books – and if you’re lucky, you’ll get to meet Charlie Hobbs and his wife Mary. What tales they have to tell!

Its been a wonderful relaxed holiday – the friendly Wendekreisen people, the stunning ruggedness of the West Coast and beauty of the mountains and lakes. We’ll be back to see more of the South Island with Wendekreisen. Highly recommended

Loved our van!

We hired the Koru Freedom 2 and it was everything we needed for our 2 week trip in the South Island! It was the best priced van we could find. They also have good extras like included RUC costs, free extra drivers, unlimited k’s, completely off grid with solar and a diesel heater ect. You can also take them on unsealed roads which heaps of other rentals don’t allow (excluding certain restricted roads of course). The van itself ran like a dream with no issues. Lisa in the office was so awesome with everything! We loved it and would recommend these guys to anyone looking for a van in nz!

Campervan experience

From booking inquiry to being dropped off at the Hotel after the holiday was a wonderful stress free experience. We hired a Koru 2 freedom which was brilliant. Ran well, very operational and easy to park. Fully equipped , cozy and comfortable. Customer service was first class you actually felt like a customer and not a nuisance. Really well designed vehicle

We hired a Koru 4 star for 9 days and thoroughly enjoyed our holiday in New Zealand. The vehicle is really well though out. Lots of storage and the solar system meant we did not need to plug in and had the independence to stay wherever we wanted.

El vehiculo fue perfectamente, el consumo inmejorable y todo el muy còmode. El check out rapido y muy eficiente con el traslado al aeropuerto incluido. We chose Wendekreisen for our 4 week holiday. When we booked they had just started to advertise the Kora Star Freedom which we took. The camper didnt need power at all and we managed to stay on DOC sites for the entire time. Great vehicle and a friendly team. Highly recommended

Memorable experience

My boyfriend and I had spent our time with MAD2 for 11 days in South island, it was a fantastic and memorable experience for us! It was our first time staying in a small van with all our belongings, we was worried at first but it turns out just perfect! And they provided every basic basic things that you’ll need., there’s really nothing to worry about! The staffs are nice, friendly and helpful, they answered all my questions patiently and provided all the informations that we needed. Thank you Mad Campers, we had a real great time in New Zealand! Amazing time, amazing company

Amazing company. Had a great time in their neat little van. Combines convenience of travelling and parking wherever you want with all the facilities you need (fridge, water, sink, storage, music, really good usb charging compatible with fast charging). No issues with the van at all – it had 150k kilometers on the clock but handled very well and was fun to drive! Hannah and the team saved our bacon when I left my liscence at home and it was held up in customs. Hannah spent a couple of hours researching ways to get us on the road and we got away on time! Really pleased with their excellent customer service. The mad challenge is also really fun and a good way to get some money back!

Fantastic experience

We had an amazing experience with Mad Campers. We hired a MAD2 for 2 weeks, their customer service is the best I’ve ever experienced with a company. From my initial enquiry, booking, pick up and drop off, everything was explained clearly and in a friendly manner. You can tell the company really care that you enjoy your visit to New Zealand. This is our first time staying in a camper (we usually camp in a tent), but we are truly converted and now looking at possibly buying a van to convert ourselves! The van looked like new on this inside, everything is thought through really well. It was so easy to put the bed up and down that we put it away every day to have the sofas, then popped it back out just before bed. The roof box held our 2 wheelie suitcases and there was enough storage to keep our clothes inside, which was great. We hired the canopy and would really recommend this. It easily popped on the back and meant we could cook in the kitchen in the evening without being attacked by bugs. It also gave us protection from the rain and wind (we only had bad weather for a couple of days, but having this protection so we could cook comfortably without getting wet was fab). The second battery is a great idea. Being able to charge our mobiles and keep the fridge cold (without worrying about the battery of the van) was excellent. Overall a fantastic experience. We just wished we could have stayed longer. Thanks Mad Campers!

Amazing experience

My husband and I spent one week traveling the North Island in a Mad Camper van and we just loved it! It was our first experience in a camper van and I think that Mad Campers was the best company we could have chosen. The van was perfect, it had everything we needed. From the moment i picked up my Mad Camper i was happy with the assistance in helping me start my journey in New Zealand after spending 17 days with the van i was extremely impressed with the comfort an functionality. The van handled the driving perfectly an never had any mechanical issues. Simply the best ????

As we decided to visit New Zealand quite spontaneously, we didn’t have so much time to prepare or book everything like we would like to. We struggled to find any good trusted company to hire our dream camper van as at that time was everything booked by somebody else. We were so lucky to find Adventiv company, the communication with the owner was outstanding from the start to the end, he gave us so many useful information not just about the camper van we hired. The actual camper van (Nissan NV200) was very well cleverly made, we hired it for 6 weeks, travelling North and South Island around, never let us down, it bacame as a part of our family ???? It was an automat and very easy to drive. It had an extra battery for proper fridge, which was very very useful! The others had just a little cooling box, so they couldn’t buy anything to store like we could. I would definitely recommend this company! We had an amazing holiday in New Zealand and big part of it was to have this excellent camper van! Thanks!

Great experience

Hired a motorhome for two weeks to travel around the South Island.
Our motorhome was nearly new. Very comfortable. No issues. So easy to drive. Made our holiday one of the best. Christchurch Mc Rent staff were helpful and very friendly when picking up and returning vehicle. Everything went very smoothly.

Incredible experience with Mad Campers!

Wow. We rented a campervan for a little over two weeks in February/March 2019 and had zero, and I truly mean ZERO issues. The van was perfectly stocked, easy to drive, and SO cute. It was fun to wave to other Mad Campers on the road!! We also loved the way the back door opens up – we took full advantage of backing up to gorgeous views and enjoying a book, some lunch, or some wine. Customer service was lovely as well, we had a small rock chip in the windshield and they made it so easy for us to resolve the issue. Our time in New Zealand was an absolute dream, I can’t wait to do it again and we will certainly be using a Mad Camper!!

Great service, awesome staff

We recently returned home from a short trip to New Zealand’s North Island and I want to make sure the folks at Wendekreisen are recognized for their kindness and whole heartedly recommend them to anyone seeking their service. We booked a camper van ahead of time not knowing that by the time we arrived we would be too sick to camp! The morning we were to pick up the camper we walked to the office in Mangere to let them know we would not be picking up our camper that day but hopefully the next. Arti was so kind and suggested a nearby pharmacy to try for some over the counter meds and assured us the camper would be ready when we were. We spent the day taking medicine, drinking fluids and trying to rest. The next day we were not much better. After arriving back at Wendekreisen that next morning we had determined that we should not be camping while sick and asked to change from a camper to a car. Sila was helping us this morning and she dialed the number for her supervisor and let us plead our dilemma. After a short wait the main office called back to ok our switch. Sila informed us that the car had to be cleaned and that we should go to the doctor. Michele drove us to the doctor and dropped us off. After picking up our prescriptions for the FLU, we called Sila back and she had Steve come pick us up. Who does this? Wendekreisen does!!! Shortly we were on our way and ended up getting better every day but our trip could have been ruined had it not been for the staff at this company. What an amazing bunch of people!

The team at Wendekreisen in Auckland was just amazing. Upon checking in, they spent time to go through everything and ensure we were all confident with our new home. The quality/price ratio is great and the support team was amazing. They went above expectations when we were late returning due to traffic jam and waited for us. They even dropped our daughter’s favorite blankie back at the hotel we were staying as we had forgotten it: simply excellent service from a dedicated team!

Campa South Rentals Experience

We picked up and returned the van from the Auckland depot, which is outside the city. This wasn’t a problem though as Kurt picked us up from the station without any problems, and the van was ready to go straightaway. Both the pick-up and drop-off were stress-free, which is great as you can concentrate on enjoying your holiday. The van was great because it’s fitted out with all the things you might need to enjoy the campsites around the country, with no extra costs for picnic tables or chairs for instance. And as the van wasn’t plastered with advertising, you don’t feel like a driving advert. Overall a really good experience, and very glad we went with Campa South!

We rented their camper van for 3 weeks.

We rented their camper van for 3 weeks. They use older models. This one ran GREAT the whole time and never burned any oil. We wanted self-contained, but also wanted a shower, solar panel and sleeping in the rear. They are family-owned and we preferred this to the more corporate side of the camper van world. It was mostly a great experience. New Zealand is one of the most beautiful places on the planet and seeing the country in a camper van is the way to do it. Downsides: During orientation it was explained that the rear door needed an extra pull and finesse to open. What we found out was that it was even worse trying to open it from the inside. We bought lube for this but the lube didn’t help at all. Seems they need a new mechanism. We ended up having to go in and out the front doors more than we wanted to. While in sand fly land, we noticed they were coming in through the overhead vent, the screen was torn. The bed linens were old and no longer fresh even after laundering and the pillows were old, misshapen and uncomfortable. We liked that they were accommodating with shuttling us to their place and to the airport on both sides of the trip. Overall, a good experience.

Very pleased with all the features in the Van. We never ran out of power despite being off the grid most of the time. The only negative thing was a heavy clutch, but not bad once we got used to it.

Excellent Maui van

Had a few issues but were sorted although had to go to Queenstown- only three places you can so be aware. The only thing was the gps was not great and WiFi waste of time could only use when vehicle running as didntvhokd chsrge either which defeats the point of having one! Easy to drive and everything you need. You don’t beef to check into powered site every two days unless you want to use all the electrical stuff if happy with free sites and free dump stations then no issue. We bought the DOC pass and worth every penny plus liked idea of giving back as footpaths loos etc are generally fab. All but off the track but worth it and you definitely need a good map or gps to find them. All in all a fabulous trip can’t wait to return.

Wendekreisen hire feedback

Hired 6m length van sleeping 2 with toilet /shower for just over 2 weeks. Competitive price compared to some of bigger outlets but still a major expense. We are experienced campervan owners, so can say van drove well and scored well for comfy bed for 2. Important. No swivel front seats which reduced overall space in van at rest, so go for that option if available. Kit supplied for living in van was adequate but could be improved. Electric kettle and toaster were nice to have. On board toilet handy, never used shower. Both essential if planning to wild camp. One concern was handbrake was not effective on steep hill, so had to leave in gear. Reported fault on return, sure it would get attention. Overall a good if not perfect experience. Have to accept these vans get heavy use and you have to hope checks at turnaround are adequate to detect any issues that develop.

We selected EuroCampers because it was the best vehicle/price for our family and the trip we had planned. The booking and pick up the vehicle, was efficient and smooth.

The vehicle itself was not very clean (broom swept) and well worn (having over 200k km) but this was acceptable.

The issues began when we went to use the stove. Unfortunately the 4 elements/oven would turn on but would not stay on due to a problem with the due to the holidays we could not get the stove repaired or replace. We purchased a camping stove and were told that a complaint would be lodged on our behalf and compensation would be discussed. When we returned the vehicle, the manager was reluctant to speak to us and would not discuss compensation saying she needed to review the facts. We presented the facts but she said this was not a clear case and she needed time to review as she had been on holidays and didn’t look into the issue. I was told I would have a response by January 7 but none received.

We selected this vehicle because with young children we wanted to cook all of our meals and freedom camp thus being fully self contained was essential. A camping stove required outside cooking (in wind, cold and rain) and we had to disconnect the gas canister from the vehicle and connect to the camping stove every time we wanted to cook! The result was we often ate out and making a simple tea or coffee was a hassle and time consuming. We did not experience good customer service and did not even get an apology! They clearly did not test the essential items before giving it to us as the stove was clearly broken. Given the amount we paid for this vehicle, it should have been in perfect working order and if not, we should be fairly compensated for their mistake and our inconvenience to us

Many defekts on campervan under 2,5 years old

We had rented a 6-person campervan for 4 weeks. It drove fine, but everything rattled inside when we drove and made so much noise that we had to shout to communicate. It was unbearable to sit at the table in the camper while driving because of the noise and the shaking of the camper. We had no experience with campervans so it was a surprise that sitting in the back of the camper was so uncomfortable! At the same time, several parts became loose and defective, see the list below. We contacted Maui, but they would only come and look at it if we got to a bigger city, which we didn’t. At the delivery in Auckland we demanded compensation, we couldn’t get that as we hadn’t driven to a bigger city and let them try to fix the faults. We paid a lot of money to rent the campervan, so of course we expected it to be in order. We would not recommend Maui! Errors in motorhomes:
– Table by the sofa group is completely loose at the bracket in the floor, cannot be screwed down, screws just turn around
– Upper cabinet doors fell off, cannot be put on, screws just turn around
-Loose handles on pots and pans and pot lids, some rattle off while driving and cannot be tightened properly
-Small taps’ tangible fall off so that the water cannot be opened/closed
– The fridge lock keeps coming loose and must be put in place before the fridge can be closed
-Water in the bottom of the cabinet under the microwave
-Water comes out on the outside of the camper when bathing
-The elastic holder for one bottom plate in the double bed has fallen out of the wall
-The toilet opener has stuck several times so that the hole for the cassette cannot be opened/closed
-Toasters have always had loose sides inside, so it is difficult to get the bread up and down in the residue

Mighty Campervan Windscreen Rip Off

The campervan was fine.
However we did get a chip on the windscreen less than 25mm in diameter on a tarmac road near Kawakawa. This highlights the worst of THL bureaucracy, it is not covered by the most expensive insurance option so be aware. We reported immediately to roadside assistance who specifically told us not to have it fixed even though we were happy to do so. When we return we were given a bill of $508 for a new windscreen as their workshop said it was unfixable. Bit of advice for others, if this happens to you have in fixed on the road yourself by a reputable windscreen repairer and don’t ring roadside assistance.

Don’t hire Jucy

Growing up in New Zealand I always thought Jucy Campervans would be amazing, the bright green vans are everywhere and everyone seems to enjoy them. For us, camping with a Jucy Compass Campervan was not this case. When we arrived to pick up our van we weren’t greeted, 3 employees continued to chat amongst themselves about their personal life and one stood up and announced he was going for a “durrie” (cigarette). One of the employees finally decided to look up our reservation. After a good 20 minutes we sat there waiting for her to work out how to do her job. The lady mentioned that because we had booked “Stress Free Insurance” we would get the camping chairs for free! Lovely we thought, until she had seen we already pre-paid so the free add on chairs were out of the question now… it took her a further 20 minutes to work out if we had paid in full for the whole campervan or if we had a remaining balance, in which she had to ask another 2 employees to help her. We were then asked to wait outside for another 20 minutes until the lady drove our campervan around from the back and began to give us a very uneducated, uninformative description about how the campervan worked and it’s features – none of which she had any idea about what she was talking about. If English was my second language I would struggle to understand this process with Jucy and the way their employees act. After a near 1.5 hour delay we were finally on the road to begin our road trip. A 7 hour drive later we arrived and figured our how the features of the van worked by ourselves. We discovered 1 camping chair broken, the van speakers were blown and the secondary battery didn’t work so we had no refrigeration. On return of the vehicle no form of a sorry or discount was even offered to amend this annoying and last time experience with Jucy. On top of that, the social media manager of Jucy “Lucy” replies to questions online but is rude and unhelpful.

Worst customer experience ever!

We have rented a Jucy van in Nov. 2019 and had some problems while on the road. The customer support of Jucy Rentals was not helping us at all – they told us that we should find a solution and left us on our own. We were stuck for 5 days with our van and lost 1/3 of the time of our road trip due to their lack of interest and unwillingness to support us. They then charged us an estimated amount to solve the problem without being able to give any prove how this costs come to be. Apart from our experience on the road, the staff at pick-up and drop-off were lacking motivation and interest in customers. We had to wait pretty long to be dealt with and there was a queue of people on both occasions. We rented a Compass with a pod and got a vehicle with a tent on the roof. We were shown a short video how to use the tent. We were also sent-off without sufficient explanaition of the vehicle. I have already rented at another company in 2017, so I know how much time and effort others put into explaining the car and NZ-roads. Due to our problems on the road we were “lucky” to experience two of their cars. The compass, which I already mentioned, is rather unpractible and looks as if it offers a lot of space but doesn’t. I would not recommend renting this car for 4 people! After the compass was towed, we got a Cabana. This car was honestly really great and offered a lot of space. It was, however, already damaged at the rear when we got it so we had to find a solution for this as well. Please don’t get confused: There are a lot of Jucy vans on the road, their social media marketing is great and they seem to be one of the largest rental companies in NZ. This does not proove that they are good. They are, in fact, the worst.

More Ironic than Iconic

We recently hired a campervan from Iconic for 2 weeks. From the first night we encountered problems, with the battery losing power ridiculously quickly with nothing more than a single light bulb on. Pretty soon other issues started to appear including the fridge door not staying shut while driving, cupboard doors also flying open (due to faulty locks) and the kitchen waste water discharging throughout the cupboards and onto the floor due to broken plumbing. Each of these issues was brought to Iconic’s attention, along with our planned route, yet they were always unable (unwilling) to arrange to meet us to fit a new battery or to make repairs. The final straw though occurred on a busy state highway with a tyre blowing out. It was a frightening experience for our family as it happened at high speed with no verge to pull onto. We called Iconic, as instructed, and they were quite indifferent and told us to call the AA, which we did. When the AA (and a local policeman) arrived, they agreed that the tyre was bald and the vehicle should not have been on the road. Possibly the most disappointing aspect of all this occurred after we returned the vehicle; After being implored to do so by the local rep, we wrote an email to Iconic management outlining the concerns with the vehicle. Their response has been to deny the problems existed and refuse to apologise for the inconvenience. We would caution anyone to think very carefully before renting with Iconic as our experience was of a tired vehicle showing signs of too many years on the road (by the time we returned it we had been forced to use duct tape to hold it together) and customer care indifferent to the client. A far cry from the “Award winning motor homes and award winning team” spruiked on their website.

Renter beware

Do not Rent a camper from cheapa campa NZ, very disappointed that we were lied to. Fridge was only 12 volt, we were told to leave gas on to keep fridge running when stationary and the house batteries would not hold charge, often only on 11.4v. Vehicle would not charge the house battery, so were not able to run hot water or fridge unless plugged in to mains power. When we reached out for assistance, they did not help us, we called a gas plumber ourselves, this is how we found out it was only 12v. We made the most of our holiday, only stayed at two cheap camper grounds out of our 6 day trip. They offered to refund us a small amount for our troubles, should have been at least half if not a complete refund. I would not recommend using them. They are friendly people to deal with, but their customer service team and vehicles can do with a complete overhaul. I would rate less than one star if I could. buyer beware!!

Avoid at all costs

Firstly we were advised that the campervan we had booked months ago was going to be swapped out for another. While they offered a reduced cost given we specifically wanted a more modern one we were not off to a good start. Then it turned out not only was it an older one but they hadn’t done their maintenance checks! The water tank was leaking which we only discovered the next day when we were out of water! Could they be bothered to arrange a fix? NO! Get some waterproof tape and put it over the hole!! Bad enough but it wasn’t a hole it was a gash!!! How could they miss that in their turnaround check? The gas bottle was also mostly empty and the drawers didn’t bolt properly meaning the rubbish drawer didn’t just open it fell out repeatedly.
Customer service was absolutely appalling and the paltry compensation did not even remotely make up for the inconvenience trying to arrange a fix and spending countless hours on the phone and emails with them. They were much more focused on covering their arses than providing a solution or customer service! This will go to Consumer Affairs as they were clearly in breach of the NZ consumer Act. Avoid this company like the plague. Clearly their managers have nothing else to do but deal with a huge litany of complaints. While we were returning the van there were 2 other families with some serious complaints about faulty vans who had to change their entire plans and wait for them to fix them for DAYS! So don’t even think of using this company.

COMPLETE DISASTER

This rental company is SHAMBOLIC!
We had a really bad experience which completely ruined our holiday in NZ. it’s such a shame as we loved the country and the people and were keen to use a local company. We spent a lot of money on a camper van that had a leaking fresh water tank, a broken table, and to top it all off, a malfunctioning fridge. These are fundamental components to van life. We emailed the company about the issues we had at the time and since but their response has been limited and unhelpful. It’s been several months of us trying to get a reasonable adjustments to the price we paid, with no luck. We are just asking to make things right and fair with the big issues we had with the van we rented from this company.
AVOID THIS RENTAL AT ALL COSTS!!

I know why people get angry and stay angry with McRent!

We had a terrible vehicle and terrible service.

* There was a warning light and dashboard message saying there’s an error with an airbag. Surely this makes the vehicle unsuitable for hiring out?!
* The dashboard around the gear selector was loose. To select a gear, I had to hold the dashboard in with one hard while moving the gear lever with the other. This is very far from ideal when manoeuvring.
* Only one loudspeaker worked, and that one was falling apart with the grill coming off. This was particularly frustrating as we wanted to listen to audio books while we travelled but we were unable to listen to anything at all. The audio module showed an error message about wiring problems.
* The satellite dish didn’t work. It beeped, made noises like a motor is moving, then displays a red ‘error’ light. So no TV, no radio, no music, no audio books.
* None of the steering wheel audio controls worked, but I guess that was unimportant as we couldn’t hear anything.
* The dining table was badly damaged. We found out why the table has so many holes in it when the cupboard over the table opened as we were driving and the contents of the cupboard fall out onto the table. (Yes, there’s another hole in the table now)
* One of the hinges on the toilet door was snapped. (The top one) That put additional strain on the remaining hinges
* Seats were badly stained, especially the driver’s seat
* Only one out of the three USB ports worked, meaning it was very difficult to charge our devices.
* The fresh water hose didn’t have the correct fitting to enable us to get fresh water! We had to buy new fittings at our own expense.

It took ages and MANY emails to get a VERY small offer of compensation. People need to know how bad McRent’s vehicles and service are.

Do not hire from Camplify

We booked Lenny’s Camper with Camplify for 12 days and returned it in less that 24 hours . The owner knew his camper very well and provided a great video and an excessive handover, but it didn’t change the issues we encountered. We h ave limited camper experience, figured that the issues could be due to that but it wasn’t all on us. The camper IS NOT user friendly!!! No confidence in the camper when you are supplied jumper cables and multiple spare batteries, with 2000km round trip and a road side assist number, we didn’t believe the camper would make it. The camper was super noisey, there was no way we could have enjoyed leisurely laid back trips between stops, the camper couldn’t lock, the privacy screen was basically unusable, the hydraulic bed jammed. Going to dispute tribunal, never using Camplify again and DEFINITELY do not recommend hiring Lenny’s Camper!!

Avoid, avoid, avoid!

These guys are the Jetstar of motorhome rental. Horrible quality and customer service. This was my 4th campervan rental in NZ & by far the worst. Unlimited kilometres is irrelvant when they make you pay 11 cents per km that you travel! This is an unidentified cost when you book, so be sure and factor that in. The girl who checked us in was a clueless idiot. Thank god for the instruction manual to actually show you how things worked in the van. We were unable to use the shower or hand basin after a couple of days as every time we did there was a massive leak in the pipes. Only then did I notice the veneer peeling off the wood, indicating previous water damage. This is obviously a problem which had plagued our van before. We were provided no compensation for a van with no shower facilities that we had paid extra for. Clueless woman could only act incredibly clueless about the whole thing and try to sweep the problem under the carpet and say that she’d have to ask about compensation. Of course we never heard anything. The internal heating system reported an error if you tried to use it off gas. So it was useless when free camping. The fridge was a good size and had a very good size freezer. The van drove well and cruise control was a blessing. And the bed was a good size and very comfy. The van was quite new but suffered from a very cheap & poor quality fit-out. The staff were amongst the worst I’ve ever dealt with and the hidden additional costs leave a very bitter taste in your mouth.

How to throw 14000 NZD I the trash

am following up on your email in response to my request for compensation.

You apologize for all the problems we encountered but that is not enough. The compensation amount of NZD 1000 is SCANDALOUS. It\\\’s a joke!

Your attitude shows that you have no respect for your customers.

I reserved and paid well in advance for a Britz Wanderer 4 berth vehicle for the amount of NZD 14,095.73, or NZD 542.14 per day. I should have received a premium vehicle due to the very high price.

I remind you of the problems:

1. I did not get the vehicle I reserved and paid for well in advance.
2. The replacement vehicle, a Maui Cascade, which I did not choose, had numerous problems from day one:
– Pull left
– Engine alert messages (exhaust alerts, ABS brake alerts, AD blue almost empty)
– Water drains blocked from the 1st day
– Door falling
– No AD blue
3. I had to return to Auckland at your request. I requested a vehicle exchange and you refused.
You told me that you had resolved all the problems (see point 2). You just fixed the door and THAT\\\’S IT!!!!

As a result, we spent 26 days in a camper van in which we could not
1. shower because the water was not draining so we had to go to campsites
2. fears due to engine alert messages,
3. wasted time (vehicle not ready, then having to return to Auckland, then numerous contacts with your assistance services
4. irritations

By your fault our vacation was ruined !

Avoid Kiwi Campers - smelly, old vans, awful customer service

Avoid this company because they will ruin your holiday. We booked this through a 3rd party company who had really good ratings. If we had checked out the reviews on Kiwi Campers before booking, we 100% would have gone for a company that actually cares about its customers and the product it provides.

The van we rented was marketed as luxury and deluxe. It reality basic is being incredibly kind. It is old, rusty, smelly, uncared for and quite frankly disgusting. It shouldn’t even be marketed as a basic camper van because basic functions a camper van should have it doesn’t or they don’t work.

They was blood stains all over the curtains, the bedding provided was stained and smelly, the fridge/cooker wasn’t provided to us clean and it is clear they never actually flush through or clean out thoroughly the cassette or water tanks. Even when everything was empty the entire van stank which meant we had to have the windows open at all times to help dissipate the nauseating smell. I could list the many many other problems with the van which are anything but luxury.

To top it off their customer service was awful. We emailed them 2/3 with our stay to list our issues and they replied with a passive aggressive email saying we should temper our expectations of any compensation, rather than asking how they could fix these issues for the remaining of our trip.

Whilst we didn’t experience anything horrific like the other reviews, my advice would be to stay well clear of this company if you want to enjoy your trip in NZ!

Shocking Customer Service

From the moment we arrived at the collection point in Christchurch, it was clear that chaos reigned supreme. With no semblance of organization, customers were left to stand around aimlessly, some having waited up to five hours due to the company’s policy of waiting for vans to be returned before hastily recycling and “cleaning” and reissuing them with little preparation. This was hardly the welcome we expected after a grueling 24-hour flight from Europe.
The van itself was a Pandora’s box of problems. The sink was clogged with rotten food, which we had to clear out ourselves, only to find it still drained at a snail’s pace. To add insult to injury, the gas bottle was empty, a discovery made at the most inopportune time—while trying to prepare our first meal. We emailed JUCY and although the company’s response was to reimburse us for a replacement upon receipt submission, this did little to satiate our immediate hunger. Upon attaching a receipt to the email the response from Roh who we were in contact with was “why have you emailed us a receipt?” – how about reading the email for the answer, it’s because you asked for it!!! This was the start of the extremely poor communication from the so called Customer Service team.

The cooker’s ignition was a lost cause, and even when resorting to matches, only one burner remained lit. Our journey was further marred by a persistent battery warning light, leading to not just one, but two garage visits during our holiday to replace firstly the battery and then the alternator. These unplanned detours resulted in lost bookings for things we had planned for my Birthday and Wedding Anniversary which lost us over 200NZD, not to mention the exorbitant costs of another 200NZD in calls to JUCY to try and address the van’s faults. On the first occasion JUCY stated they would email us the details of a local mechanic once they had sourced one. Which is fair enough as using our mobile phones in New Zealand is extremely expensive. We heard nothing back so had no choice but to call to get the information. The rep on the phone (Malika) had the cheek to try and tell us off stating they had been trying to call us, despite saying they would response would be by email knowing full well we had phones switched off and had no signal at the campsite anyway!!!

Communication with the company was an exercise in futility, with nearly half of our 40 emails, primarily to a representative called Malika, going unanswered. Even our identity seemed to be of little concern, as they managed to get our name wrong multiple times.
We sought some form of compensation for the myriad of issues and the failure to provide a van in suitable condition, only to be met with what seemed like a strategic silence, perhaps in hopes that we would tire and accept the subpar service.

In conclusion, our experience with JUCY was nothing short of a debacle, characterized by poor service, inadequate vehicle maintenance, a lack of customer care, and lost holiday time & money. I cannot recommend this company and urge potential customers to consider alternative options for a stress-free holiday. I’m left with no alternative but to now try and seek legal recourse to get a suitable resolution as emails are just ignored.

Do not hire!

We hired a caravan from MCRent Christchurch and traveled with it for two weeks. On our way a rock from the road broke our windshield and we made a small hole in the table by accident. We were more then wiling to pay the damage but when we got to their office they decided to charge us for the illogical price of 920 NZ dollars for the windshield (and they probably have insurance to pay for that kind of damage and) and 1265 NZ dollars for the tiniest hole in the table which obviously they can repair just by replacing the upper wood layer for no more then 200 dollars. After we told them it’s too much the women in the office gave us the phone of the manager. We tried to call him repeatedly and email him but he did not answer and all we got is emails from one of his workers who avantually just stoped responding. Their customer service is almost non existing, we had a problem with the water pump in the middle of the trip which wasn’t our fault and we had to wait 2 days in Wanaka and delay our trip until we got someone to fix it and we had to speak with the plumber ourselves And drive to his house because they were handling it like we had 3 month in New Zealand. They took edvantage of the fact that we had to fly home and had no time to handle it. Overall very poor choice of caravan company! Be careful

Terrible experience. Would not recommend.

On the morning of the 3rd day of our 15 day rental, the campervan broke down with a transmission problem. We were towed to Whitianga, where we were stranded for 4 days. After the mechanic declared bankruptcy on a timely repair, the company brought us a 20-year old loaner vehicle. We proceeded with our trip, booking whatever last minute lodging was available. After a week, the company told us that no suitable campervan would be available. During this period, we were clearly told by the company rep that we would be refunded for when the campervan was broken down (consistent with T&C), they would cover some of our lodging, and the use of the loaner would be free. After waiting 2 months for our refund, we were told that we would not be refunded for part of the period we were waiting for the campervan to be repaired, they would not cover any lodging, and they were charging us a rental fee for the loaner. We ultimately had to file a complaint with the NZ Dispute Tribunal to get this resolved. The rental from Euro Campers was the worst experience we have ever had with a company in the tourism / hospitality business anywhere in the world.
